Are you automating your social media?
- You’re in social media right ?
- You’ve got your profile set up with a sensible picture all your bio info and links to your website ? Great
Let me use some clichés here. In the new economy, the social connected interweb, we have to be building up the three important factors which are know like and trust
With social media you have to remember that people need to know you, like you and trust you
No one will take any notice of you if the don’t know you. You have to put your name out there so that people know who you are and what you do. To do this you have to make yourself known on social media by sharing articles and information to your target group. So for example I share a lot of self help material
Ok now that people know you they have to like you. By providing good information people start to like you. But it’s not all about just providing info it’s commenting on it, sharing insights about you and letting people know your voice online.
Of course there are some who try to create a persona that people will hate as it makes them more mysterious more intriguing. Someone who has done this well is the rich jerk. He’s just that a rich persona who is a total jerk. His videos are crass unpolitically correct. Basically he is an ass hole but that is the persona he wanted to build and all the bad assness that goes with it.
Personally I prefer to come across as I am – a nice guy
Linked to the first two you then have trust. When people know you and like you they will trust you and help you. You recommend a product a service or ask for help and they will buy or reach out to you. Remember in real life we buy from people we like.
All of the above must be achieved on social media and this is what I try to do every week. I share content every 3 days or so based on a theme every week. But you know there are two challenges here.
You need to share relevant, engaging and sometimes fun content on social media
Let’s start with the first one.
Finding the content to share!
Here’s how I work. Saturday morning I search and gather my content (problem number one). I decide on a topic for the week. I then go and find some suitable content and then use that content to create my own content. I sometimes share interesting articles that I have found but normally I create the content myself.
I then format the content, brand it, upload it. As I said finding the good content is the first challenge and this can take some time to do. Even if I am only looking for a youtube video or an interesting photo.
Publishing the content
Challenge number two, let’s not use problem, is then remembering to publish the content. I have this sorted as I schedule the content to go out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday across all three social networks – twitter, facebook and linkedin. This takes me the best part of 2 hours or more in total (finding content, scheduling etc) commander cialis en belgique.
If I did not have automation tool I would need to find the content the day before, brand everything then remember to upload the content (knowing me I would forget). It would also take a lot more time.
Of course this is only posting to my one facebook group or page. If I wanted to do it to a number of groups it would take more time.
Here are a few “rules” of social media:
Rule number one
Automate as much as you can in your business. The more time you spend on automation the more time you will have. Many tools allow you to automate content a month in advance. Imagine that, spend half a day creating all your content for the month and then set and forget it.
Rule number two
Find good content that you know people will engage with. This is often a challenge, however you can also use tools to find content that has been shared on facebook and is popular. You can then reshare this content as you know it is proven content.
Rule number three
Monitor performance. This is something that so many of us forget about. We publish content and then have no idea on how well it is performing. So we kind of wonder if all of this is worth it. Even if you do monitor all your content and check its performance it can be time consuming to find it, find the analytics in facebook and then assess the reach and engagement.
Is there a solution?
Yes of course there is! One I only discovered recently. Up to this point I had been using hootsuite, which was good, or so I thought, but then I discovered this tool.
Basically this tool does everything that you need (no it does not make the coffee!) but if you want to manage your social media campaigns it really does allow you to manage everything from one web based interface (this is so important as there is nothing to download!)
Automate as much you can to make your life easier
It gives you the ability to search youtube, facebook and instragram to find interesting and engaging content. So let’s say I am looking for a video on goal setting (which I was the other day and it took me ages) All I would need to do is to search via the tool, see how engaging the content is and then schedule it to go out (I can change the description etc)
Then there is the whole analytics section that will allow you to see how well your content is performing – this is priceless! As you want to make sure that what you are sharing is of interest to your audience.
