Did you plan on failing?
Yeah I know you’re looking at that question saying are you crazy Richard of course I did not plan on failing, it just happened. I don’t know why but it just happened, I tried but I failed.
So do we plan to fail or does failure just happen? The truth is most people who start an online business, think they are starting an online business when in fact they are not!
What do I mean by this? Well they think that starting an online business is about buying something like a pack of ebooks and then selling it to someone else. They think that they can buy some sort of push button software and make millions. They set up a website, maybe a blog, create a few posts and then forget about it!
This is a plan of sorts, but it does not work!
Why does my plan not work?
You see the plan I described above, is a half hearted plan. It’s something you stick at for about a week or so. Then you move onto something else. I’ve seen this countless times. People start a blog, get inspired and all fired up, but after 3 to 4 weeks they abandon the Blog to pursue other activities which they believe will help them make money quicker. Their Blog is left there, with no new posts and no new content.
In effect it’s another idea that “failed”.
There is no failure only feedback!
You may think what I have said is quite harsh, however it’s the reality of the situation. Too many people fail to plan, and by not planning they are actually setting themselves up for failure. I have seen this countless times before with people. They don’t have a plan, or if they do, they don’t stick to it.
Take an honest look at your online endeavours and tell me have you always done your best? Have you always created a plan and stuck to it for at least 3 to 6 months? Ok I thought as much!
Let me tell you that you can now take all of your “failures” as feedback, learn from them, discover what went wrong and then make a promise to yourself not to make the same “mistakes”
Creating a plan
If you are committed to building any sort of online business you need to have a plan. You need some sort of plan. Something that you say “ok today I have to do this and this” and then stick to it. Perhaps you don’t exactly get X done today but as long as you are doing something that is the important element.
You see we all make excuses for not working on our internet business, no time, no ideas, no this, no that. There’s 101 excuses. So that’s where we need the plan. We need to have a plan to do something each and every day. No matter how small if you are doing something each and every day you are moving forward with your business.
Yes I hate making assumptions, however let’s say that you have downloaded the first part of my business building course. Now you need to set up a plan of action. Let me also assume that you work in a job for the moment. Here’s how I can see your plan coming together:
- Go to bed 45 mins earlier each night
- Set your alarm 90 mins earlier (yes the first few days this is tough)
- Get up after 30 mins of the alarm going off
- Work on your business
- Take a shower
- Go to work
- Come home
- Work on your business for another 90 mins
- Rinse and repeat
Start of with this plan and then break it down:
- 30 mins 1 Blog post
- 30 mins product planning/creating
- 30 mins newsletter creation
- 30 mins marketing
- 30 mins research
It may not seem like a lot but it’s a start. It’s beginning to get you into a routine. It has set a specefic time aside to work on your business.
Start this routine and then stick to it. At first it may be tough but you will find as the days go by it gets easier.
Do you think you can do this? Do you think you can stick to the plan? Will you give it a try?
There are a number of tools that I use:
Google Calendar – I have found this invaluable as I can update it on my phone, via the web and it’s always in sync
Time Management tool – I could not find a good time management tool so I created this one and it’s yours for free here
For me the above two are the two most important tools you can have.
I welcome your comments and thoughts on the information above and would love to help you in anyway that I can
