Step 9 Polishing

Estimated time for completion: 1 hour

Following on from what I said in the previous step -it’s always helpful to have a second pair of eyes edit your work. Today, ask someone to read your report and give you feedback.

Print it and give it to them with a red pen. Ask them to make lots of notes about anything that is confusing or they don’t understand. Let them know that the more mistakes they find, the better it is for you, because it helps improve your report.

Make sure you encourage them to make lots of corrections. If you just hand them the report and ask them what they think, you generally won’t get useful feedback.

Make sure you are clear that you want to see lots of red marks when they hand the report back to you.

When you get the report back, consider each of the corrections and suggestions your “editor” has made and make any appropriate changes.

Remember what makes sense to you may not make sense to others, so a fresh pair of eyes does wonders!
