How many hours can you spend on your business?
I’m not going to lie to you, but most people who start off trying to build a business online do
it while they are working a full time job. The start it to try and make ends meet or to supplement their income.
This then begs the question – how long do you have to spend on building your business.
Let’s be honest – you work 8 hours a day, you might have a 90 minute commute then you need to eat, spend time with the kids, so that adds up to maybe 13 hours out of 24 hours. Realistically you need to sleep 7 hours. So you might have a sum total of 3 to 4 hours a day to build your business. Is this enough?
How much time is enough time?
Let me ask you a question – how productive are you? You can spend 3 hours “working” on your business and get nothing done because you are simply looking at ideas thinking about what you can do etc, that’s not productive. Whereas another person could spend 30 minutes and churn out 2 Blog posts.
What you need to do is to plan out what you are going to do each and every day during the week, and have a goal that you can then refer back to. This will help ensure that your are actually closer to your desired result.
Don’t be like so many and fool yourself into thinking that by sitting at your computer for 3 hours you are actually doing something. If you have no results to show after 3 hours then quite frankly you are spinning your wheels.
Sorry but I did tell you that I am honest when it comes to things!
How efficient do you work?
I have said it before that out of every hour people might get 20 minutes of actual work done. So why not use this knowledge and set your self tasks that last just 20 minutes. This then means that you will focus for 20 minutes and no longer on one task. Just enough time not to get bored.
During these 20 minutes you should be doing nothing but focusing on the predefined task at hand.
You see it make sense right? You need to learn how to manage your time effectively.
What can I do in 20 minutes?
A lot is the simple answer! How about one Blog post? One auto responder email? One promotional review of a product? Once you know what you are going to do in those 20 minutes you will set your mind on the task and get it done. Half the battle is knowing what you are going to do!
Consider what you need to do, how much time you can spare, and how effectively you can use that time. Once you get into the flow you will see that each step bring you closer to building your business.
